Neem Oil

Rich botanical conditioning for dry, rough-feeling skin.
The neem oil we use is 100% pure, unrefined oil cold-pressed from the seeds of the neem tree, Azadirachta indica. Cold pressing extracts the natural oil without the high heat and extensive processing used in refined oils.
Because it is unrefined, neem oil retains its naturally deep color, thick texture, and distinctive earthy aroma.
The Science
Neem oil consists primarily of triglycerides containing several fatty acids. Its most abundant fatty acids generally include:
- Oleic acid — a monounsaturated fatty acid that contributes richness, softness, and spreadability
- Linoleic acid — an essential fatty acid that helps condition the skin
- Palmitic acid — a saturated fatty acid that contributes body and protective emollience
- Stearic acid — a saturated fatty acid that adds richness and structure
In cosmetic formulations, neem oil functions primarily as a rich emollient. It helps:
- Condition dry, rough-feeling skin
- Soften and smooth the skin’s surface
- Add richness to protective balm formulations
- Complement tallow, butters, waxes, and other oils
Why We Use It
We use a measured amount of neem oil in our Restoration Balm for its rich texture and skin-conditioning qualities. Blending it with tallow, shea butter, calendula-infused oil, and beeswax allows us to benefit from neem’s botanical character without applying the concentrated oil by itself.
On the Skin
Neem oil helps dry, rough-feeling areas feel softer, smoother, and comfortably nourished. Its rich emollient texture complements the balm’s protective layer and gives extra conditioning support where skin feels especially dry.
