Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is pressed from the kernel of mature coconuts. We use refined coconut oil because it provides the conditioning qualities and smooth texture we want without adding a strong coconut aroma to every product.

The Science

Coconut oil consists primarily of triglycerides—molecules formed from glycerol and fatty acids. It contains a particularly high proportion of lauric acid, along with caprylic, capric, myristic, palmitic, and oleic acids.

Its fatty-acid profile makes coconut oil semi-solid at cooler room temperatures but allows it to melt easily when warmed by the skin.

In skincare, coconut oil functions primarily as an emollient. It fills the tiny spaces between dry surface skin cells, helping the skin feel softer and smoother. It also forms a light protective layer that helps reduce moisture loss from the skin’s surface.

In our formulas, coconut oil also:

• Helps solid balms melt comfortably on contact

• Helps balance the firmness of waxes and butters

Why We Use It

We use coconut oil for its smooth application, dependable texture, and ability to soften and condition the skin. Its refined form blends easily with tallow, butters, oils, and waxes without overpowering the natural scent of the finished product.
