Beeswax

Natural structure, thoughtfully refined.

Beeswax is a natural wax produced by worker honeybees and collected from the honeycomb. After it is carefully purified and filtered, it becomes a stable cosmetic ingredient used to give balms structure and create a smooth, protective finish. We use refined ivory beeswax that has had much of its natural color removed.

The Science

Beeswax is a complex mixture composed primarily of wax esters, along with hydrocarbons, free fatty acids, and fatty alcohols. Its precise composition and color naturally vary depending on the bees’ environment, botanical sources, and how the wax is processed.

Because beeswax is hydrophobic—meaning it repels water—it forms a lightweight film over the skin. This film helps slow moisture loss and supports the skin’s natural protective barrier without adding water directly to the skin.

In a formulation, beeswax also:

• Adds firmness and structure to balms
• Raises the product’s melting point
• Improves stability
• Controls glide and creates a smooth application

Why We Use It

We use beeswax to give our balms their protective consistency and staying power. It helps the nourishing oils and butters remain on the skin longer while creating a soft barrier against dry conditions.

Beeswax creates a lightweight protective film that helps slow moisture loss and keeps nourishing oils and butters in contact with the skin longer. This helps dry areas feel protected, conditioned, and comfortable.
